When you count a people, you begin to truly see them.

The caste census shall be a historic stride — but only if anchored in a genuine commitment to equality, honouring generations who fought to be acknowledged, not overlooked.

Makkal Needhi Maiam has long championed the fight against caste injustice through data-driven policy and a commitment to equal dignity, and it welcomes the Union Government’s announcement yesterday. 

But we must not repeat 2011, when data was gathered but never released. Truth must see daylight — not languish in sealed files, hidden from the public it was meant to serve.
